Location: Cwm Ogwen
Walks high up in the Ogwen Valley are certainly not for the faint hearted. The mountains district contains some of the most treacherous winding paths in North Wales. But these arduous walks can reap great rewards including the Cwm Idwal Nature Reserve - the first to be declared in Wales.
The reserve overlooks Llyn Idwal so named after the son of the ancient Prince Owain of Gwynedd whose son was drowned in the lake and whose spirit is said to still haunt the site.
The main town in the Ogwen valley is of course Bethesda which has become famous in recent years thanks to its most famous son Gruff Rhys lead singer with internationally renowned band The Super Furry Animals. The success of a massive outdoor concert held by SFA in the village in 2003 inspired young people from Bethesda to open an internet café called Pesda Roc.
