Location: Talacre Beach Lighthouse
Inactive since 1883 this distinctive, lonely 18th Century Point of Ayr lighthouse becomes completely cut off from dry land at high tide. Talacre Beach also boasts fantastic views out to the Irish Sea and back on to the Wirral Peninsula.
Point of Ayr is designated as an RSPB site with its very own hide located just to the left of the lighthouse overlooking Talacre Marsh. Making their home in the marshes and sand dunes are Whinchat, Wheatear, Stonechat, Skylark and various Warblers. Talacre Warren (between the end of Station Road and the lighthouse) is a particularly good place to see migrants including Terns, Skuas, Leach's Petrel, Kittiwakes plus various sea ducks.
The Bridlewood Riding Centre at nearby Ty'n-y-Morfa offers the chance for experienced horse riders to get the blood pumping with an exhilarating gallop along the beach. Just remember to slow down when you get to the lighthouse!
